How to Change Your Helmet Visor: Step-by-Step Guide

A scratched, fogged-up or cracked visor takes away your vision and safety on the road — and the good news is you don't need to replace the whole helmet. Swapping just the visor is quick, cheap, and on most helmets takes less than two minutes with no tools. In this guide we explain how.
Before you start: check compatibility
Every visor is made for a specific helmet. The most important step happens before the swap: confirming that the visor fits your model. Look for the model name — usually printed on the base of the old visor, on the liner, or in the helmet manual — and check it against the compatibility list shown on each product.

Step by step for most helmets
Locking systems vary between brands, but the principle is almost always the same:
- Open the visor fully, to its highest position.
- Find the release mechanism at the base of the visor, near the side pivot. It's usually a tab, a button or a lever.
- Trigger the mechanism on both sides and gently pull the visor outward. On most helmets it comes off with no effort.
- Fit the new visor by aligning the pins with the mechanism, and press until you hear it click into place on each side.
- Test opening and closing a few times and make sure it sits firmly with no play before you ride off.
If your helmet has a quick-release system (like many AGV, Shoei or NEXX models), the process is even more straightforward and tool-free.
While you're at it, fit anti-fog
Swapping the visor is the perfect time to fit an anti-fog lens, if your model supports one. It puts an end to a fogged-up visor in cold and rainy weather — and clips onto the visor's internal pins in seconds.
Final care tips
Always handle the visor by the edges so you don't leave fingerprints in your field of vision, and clean it only with proper products so you don't scratch the coating. With the right visor properly fitted, you get clear vision again and ride more safely.
